Anxiety & Depression
Anxiety and Depression/Low Mood
Having “ups and downs” is a natural part of life, especially if you have experienced major change, something traumatic, or are recovering from ill-health. The terms “anxiety” and “depression/low mood” are often paired together but are actually quite distinct in the way they affect our emotions and behaviour.
Anxiety & Depression / Low Mood
Having “ups and downs” is a natural part of life, especially if you have experienced major change, something traumatic, or are recovering from ill-health. The terms “anxiety” and “depression/low mood” are often paired together but are actually quite distinct in the way they affect our emotions and behaviour.
Anxiety can sometimes feel like:
- Butterflies in the tummy
- Trouble getting to, or staying asleep
- Constant worrying or imagining "the worst"
- Difficulty in winding down
- Impatience or being more "snappy"
Low mood can sometimes feel like:
- Sluggishness or lethargy
- Sleeping more than usual
- Not wanting the company of other people
- Not enjoying usual hobbies/pastimes
- Putting off or not finishing tasks
However, this is not meant to be a definitive list…you may recognise some, all or none of these points and part of my role is to understand how you have been affected.
Whether you can link your reactions to a particular cause or have a more general sense of not being your “usual self”, I can help you explore and understand it in a way that is specific to you and your perspective.
Counselling won’t eradicate stresses from your life, but by working together, we can build a “tool box” of techniques, to help you “ride the wave” and move towards regaining choice and control in your life.
